about

"Money is the root of all your woes" is a conflation/misappropriation of the wisdom of Reverend Run (from Run DMC’s It's Like That) and Saint Paul (from his First Epistle to Timothy chapter 6, verse 10). It’s also the chorus of the first new release in too long from L/B/W (the first since May 2013’s digital release of the Lamont/Bailey/Wall Remix EP, to be precise.)

A progression from their 2012 debut EP Lamont/Bailey/Wall, Money represents the band's "own version of a Michael Jackson song", made of interlocking funk rhythms, matter-of-fact lyrical truth and the odd moment of James Chance-inspired dissonant skronk.

The first of two singles to be released by L/B/W this year, Money forms half of a double-whammy medley (with We All Partied) that has been the centrepiece of the band’s gigs for over a year. Money is also the first new track from the band’s forthcoming debut full-length album BOOM!, due early next year

lyrics

LYRICS:
Some people have been poor for generations
Living with nothing, it's pretty tough
Some others spend their lives accumulating
But there never never seems to be enough

Success is measured in how much you gather
It's a numbers game and everybody knows
In the end you know it doesn't even matter
Cos money is the root of all your woes

Money, money, money, money
Money is the root of all your woes
Money, money, money, money
It'll all be gone before you know

Wanna go out, gotta pay for it
Wanna stay home, gotta pay for it
Wanna join the crowd, gotta pay for it
Wanna be alone, gotta pay for it
If you wanna eat, gotta pay for it
If you wanna speak, gotta pay for it
If you need a drink, gotta pay for it
Just tryna think, gotta pay for it

It's the cause of and solution to your problems
It's the reason that you get up every day
If you only had enough you'd make it work for you
But you'll never have enough to make that pay
Success is measured in how much you gather
It's a numbers game and everybody knows
In the end you know it doesn't even matter
Cos money is the root of all your woes

Money, money, money, money
Money is the root of all your woes
Money, money, money, money
Just change the name of who you owe

Wanna go out, gotta pay for it
Wanna stay home, gotta pay for it
Wanna join the crowd, gotta pay for it
Wanna be alone, gotta pay for it
If you wanna eat, gotta pay for it
If you wanna speak, gotta pay for it
If you need a drink, gotta pay for it
Just tryna think, gotta pay for it
